Park Rules




            BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE TOWN OF OCEAN ISLE BEACH that Section 38-37 of the Code of Ordinances is hereby amended to read as follows:


            The Town shall establish and enforce hours of operation for all parks, playgrounds and recreational facilities owned or operated by the Town.  The hours of operation shall be posted at each location or facility. The following activities or materials are hereby expressly prohibited at all parks, playgrounds and recreational facilities:


  1. The possession of alcoholic beverages or non-prescription controlled substances.


  2. Cooking or starting any type of fire including pit fires, open fires or grills.


  3. Using or possessing a lighted cigarette, lighted cigar, lighted pipe, or any other lighted tobacco product unless the use is within the confines of a private vehicle.


  4. Sleeping, camping or staying overnight.Sleeping bags are not allowed at any time.


  5. Leaving children under the age of twelve (12) unattended or unsupervised by a parent or guardian.


  6. The harassment of or causing harm to wildlife or wildlife nesting areas.


  7. Glass containers.


  8. Fireworks, firecrackers, smoke bombs, sparklers or other pyrotechnics.


  9. Selling, soliciting or offering for sale any item, property or privilege within the park or playground unless approved by Town prior thereto in accordance with Town ordinances.


  10. Obstructing any walkway, path, street or driveway.


  11. Participating in any conduct that is dangerous or that disrupts the enjoyment of the site by others.


  12. Refusing to exit the site when requested to do so by the Town Administrator or law enforcement officer.


  13. Depositing or leaving trash, garbage or refuse material except in designated park containers.All trash must be placed in specified containers and container must be able to be closed.No overflow of trash can be placed on the ground or on top of container lid.


  14. Playing music at a volume that creates any unreasonably loud and disturbing noise farther than twenty (20) feet from the source of the music, unless by permit or as a part of a town sponsored program.


  15. Damaging or disturbing any public property, including any mineral, artifact, monument, sign, ornament, bridge, fence, seat, water feature, tree or vegetation, landscaping or plant material, turf, or playground equipment.


  16. Tying or hanging of personal items or equipment (i.e. hammocks, swings, etc).


  17. Scooters, skateboards, roller skates, roller blades, or similar recreational/sporting equipment, motorized or non-motorized.


  18. Operation of motorized vehicles outside the designated parking/roadways.


  19. Reserving of gazebos and other structures for private use unless otherwise posted or approved in advance by Town Staff.


  20. Unleashed dogs and/or other domesticated animals. Please note: *Pet owners are required to clean up after their pets and properly dispose of waste materials.


Violation of this section shall be enforced pursuant to Section 1-6 of the Code of Ordinances.


This Ordinance shall become effective upon adoption.
